Introducing the Core Libraries Committee

Edward Kmett

Historically, the libraries mailing list proposal process has more or less unable to make headway on any issues that affected base without nigh unanimous consent. This is due in large part to the lack of anyone who felt responsible for maintaining those packages outside of GHC HQ. This has been further exacerbated by the departure of Simon Marlow and Ian Lynagh from GHC HQ.

The purpose of this talk is to introduce the new Core Libraries Committee that was formed this summer to serve the role of maintainer for most of the core libraries in the Haskell Platform and to talk a bit about the changes we're planning over the next year or so. We'd also like to start a discussion about how we can better integrate our efforts with the those of existing GHC implementors.
