*sigh* I was hoping to avoid one RPM for Redhat X.Y, one for Redhat X.Y+1,
one for SuSE A.B etc., but I'm slowly losing hope...

I'll have a detailed look at it when I find some time for this.

This is probably an instance of the Glorious 80-20 Rule, so the simpler
way is probably the right one (initially :-).
