Well, I got the inliner changes doing a lot better... now only one
nofib program seems to have increased allocation, namely "fish". I
have no idea why, and I don't think I'm going to get one unless
someone suggests a nice way to profile two variants of it against
eachother.
(something like nofib-analyse for cachegrind, only on a
symbol-by-symbol basis of course, would be nice...)
A lot of the programs are apparantly running so fast on Lemmih's
machine that nofib is flabbergasted (it thinks the times are too good
to be true, apparantly).
I'm a bit concerned about all the programs that don't run...
Oh, by the way: David Roundy suggested running "darcs optimize
--reorder" on the GHC repo to cut down on the size of patches sent to
it. I mean, just look at all the TAG hunks in that patch! I have
confirmed that it works better with a repository that that has been
done on (I copied my ghc working directory, unpulled these patches,
and sent them to the copy with -o. Well, the first two anyway.)
It might also be nice to raise the size limit on messages to this list
a bit, maybe to 250k...
