No, it edits the patch *bundle* description, which is the body of the
e-mail, not in the attachment.

Right, it's not possible to insert messages into the middle of a thread
using darcs send (although patches in the middle of threads are more
likely to be missed anyway, so that's not necessarily a bad thing).

I meant a link to the particular mail, not the archive index.
