E-Mail Attachments In E-Mails Sent to the Mailing List

I am wondering if sending an e-mail attachment is acceptable or problematic in an e-mail sent to a Haskell mailing list. I see that some people do this. I would prefer to post content using TeX that is converted to PDF. I doubt anyone will want to see a dvi or ps file which are common TeX output file formats in addition to pdf. I suppose I could convert the TeX to plain text. I believe there is some sort of utility that will allow me to do this. It might also prove cumbersome and not worthy bothering with. I want to try it out. I even bother my friends with this sort of nonsense so don't feel excluded.
