[Haskell-cafe] IO Monad

Hi,
Could anyone explain for me why its not possible to return a primitive type 
(such as Integer, String) while doing some IO actions ?

e.g: foo :: IO() -> String

What does it have to do with "lazy evalution" paradigm ?
