Use the bytstring-lexing library,

    http://hackage.haskell.org/cgi-bin/hackage-scripts/package/bytestring-lexing

Which provides a copying and non-copying lexer for doubles,

    readDouble       :: ByteString -> Maybe (Double, ByteString)
    unsafeReadDouble :: ByteString -> Maybe (Double, ByteString)
